Father's Day

You took on the hardest role that most 'men' your age could ever take on.

You sacrificed so much to become a good role model for him.

And you love him like he is your own.

Happy Father's Day, T.
You are the best man, step-father, dad (and future babydaddy) I've ever known.

I’m not very big on the whole New Year’s Resolution thing. Partly because I’m so damn fickle about any kind of goal I set for myself (well, is it worth the effort? Is it going to take that long? How much of this is going to cut into my sit-on-the-couch-and-be-worthless time?); and mostly because I’m scared that I’ll fall flat on my face if I don’t accomplish it.

Despite my non-belief in setting myself up to fail, I compiled a to-do list at the beginning of the year. Yes, a to-do list. No, not a resolution list. Resolution implies that anything set forth as a resolution will be long forgotten by January 3rd. A to-do list demands that it needs to be to-done (haw haw)

Why am I bringing this up, you say? January was eons ago. It’s June. It’s also the sixth month of the year which means, duh, we’re almost halfway through the year. Which means, anything that hasn’t been crossed off this list, I have approximately 180 days to legitimately do and cross off (and not just half-ass it to say I did).

So, here’s the list. I took the liberty of actually putting a little checkmark next to the ones that have been happily accomplished. You know, to make it look like a legit to-do list and all.

12 To-Do for '12

✔ 1) Workout (and actually like it!)

2) Learn something new like ✔crochet, scrapbook, airbrush and ride a two-wheeled something with a motor

✔3) Learn how cook good healthy food and amazing desserts

4) Not let others' actions affect me (and my day)

5) Treat mom to lunch and dinners more often

6) More: Writing, ✔reading, designing. Less: Whining, ✔giving up

7) Try new things like joining a networking group / volunteer and taking a random creative class

8) Go back to school!

9) Do more as a family: ✔vacations, classes, play time

10) Learn to listen without speaking

11) Take a ton of pictures at every opportunity (and not just camera-phone pictures)

12) Revel in and appreciate the little thing

I'm still working on it. Some of these things take more time than others (learning to listen without speaking, learning to ride a motorcycle) and others, I just need to jump into without hesitation. In about three months, I'll revisit this list again and hopefully get to check off more things.

Did you have a 2012 To-Do list? Or did you make New Year's resolutions? Have you accomplished any of them?

I love you. I really do. And you seem to love me back just as much. Everytime I walk into any of your stores, I like to think that your automatic sliding doors are the equivalent of giant corporate arms, opening to envelope me in your retail love. I come with the sole mission to buy dog food, but because you present me with so many beautiful things, I end up walking out three hours later with said dogfood, a new swimsuit, a lamp, an armful of random knick-knacks from your cheap-o front displays; measuring spoons, a coin purse (because hel-lo, it was on clearance for $3!), a new bottle of shampoo, and a panini press.

I don't even know how to use a panini press. Let alone, make a panini.

So as you can imagine, Target trips are somewhat of a vacation for me. I count down the minutes until I'm pulling into your parking lot. I wander around your store for hours upon hours, touching, feeling, holding items, and imagining all the things I can do with them. When I leave, I leave with a hole in my heart as big as the one in my wallet, but fondly look forward the next go-round.

However. HOWEVER. Lately, I have been not-so-happy with you.

You see, a few years ago-- okay, eons ago, I stumbled upon the most fantastic pair of Xhiliration-brand heels in your store. They were the quintessential Little Black Dress, only for my feet. Cute. Classic. Practical. Most importantly, comfortable. They went with everything-- dresses, office pants, shorts, you name it-- and I wore them everywhere. At one point, everyday.

In the last year or two, they have sadly but expectedly worn down. The heel stopper is uneven due to my awkward gait and the striping on the sole has been eroded to baby-bottom smoothness. The leather has surprisingly held up well, leading me to believe that when the world ends, there will be nothing left but dust, cockroaches, and me clutching onto these shoes for dear life.

Which is why, dear Target, I must have another. Maybe two. Black of course. And maybe red.

But you no longer carry these shoes in your stores. Every year, with every changing season, I make that usual trip down to the shoe aisle and seek out something, anything that closely resembles my beloveds. Four years ago, you may have had something close, but the heel was too skinny and about half an inch too high (yes, I do notice these things). Recently, it's been a disappointing effort and I think I've stopped trying altogether.

So, I beg of you, please bring back these amazing little heels to your store and I promise, I will buy six pairs in each color, and whore the hell out of them to my friends who, in turn, will buy hundreds and thousands of them. Or you can just send one little lone size six-and-a-half pair to my house and we will call it even [for all those times I maxed out my credit cards in your stores]

But even if you didn't, I'll still love you. Forever and ever. Even if it means tripping into your store, wearing my poor, crooked, ragged-- but still adorable!-- heels the whole time :)

Love,
Angie

Hello, again.

Random status updates aren't cutting it anymore, and one-hundred forty characters seriously cramps my style.

So here I am. For the thousandth time. Maybe the thousandth-and-first will be good luck?

Enjoy :)
